本文将台湾非迁徙鸟类特有亚种的翅长与大陆同种但不同亚种作了比较。共比较了10科21个亚种,其中14个台湾特有亚种鸟翅明显短于相应的大陆亚种。鸟翅变短是对岛屿环境的一种适应,可能是岛屿鸟类亚种分化的独特的因素。

In Taiwan Province, with respect to Non-Passeriformes, there are 66 species of breeding birds, including 3 endemic species and 24 endemic subspecies (Cheng, 1986) . Of the 24 Taiwan endemic subspecies,3 are sole forms of the respective species (i. e. ,Treron f. formosa, Ptilinopus leclanchei tawanus, Macropygia phasianella phaea) , which have no other subspecies recorded in the mainland of China. Hence we have only 21 Taiwan endemic subspecies to deal with. It is considered of interest to make a comparison of wing length between the Taiwan endemic subspecies and the mainland subspecies of the same species. Wing measurements of Taiwan birds are taken from Hashicuka and Udagawa (1950) and Chang Wan-fu (1985), whereas those of the mainland subspecies from Cheng et al. (1978, 1991, 1993), with a few taken from La Touche (1931-34) and Ripley (1977). Results of the comparison are given below.
